Rush Start The Season 0-2 After Week 2 Lose In Boston

By Mike Wilson

The Edmonton Rush have started their season 0-2 as they lost 10-7 in Boston Saturday night.

Kedoh Hill opened the scoring for the Rush on his first shot on his first National Lacrosse League shift!

The first half of this game was low scoring, ending at a 3-3 tie. The big three only combined for 2 points in the half.  Josh Sanderson had NONE!

The Rush defence was doing a great job at containing Sanderson, Powell, and Dawson during the first half but seemed to do the opposite during the second.

The Blazers outscored the Rush 5-2 in the third quarter and they kept that 3 goal lead on and off, but ended up taking it to the end of the game.

3 points from Dawson, 3 from Sanderson and 2 from Powell helped the Blazers acquire a 3 goal lead, but the real player of the game for the Blazers was Nick Cotter.

He finished the game with 3 goals, one of them being scored when Cotter single handily beat 3 Rush defenders.

The Rush’s offensive troubles seemed to mirror those that they had in Toronto last week; without all the posts.

The offence did a great job at getting inside during the first half but couldn’t do it in the second half.
Ryan Ward, the Rush’s leading scorer last year failed to grab a single point. Neither did Captain Brodie Merrill.  If the Rush are going to make the playoffs, these guys really need to turn it on.

Rookie Kedoh Hill lead the Rush in scoring with 2 goals and 2 assists. I thought he looked great for a guy playing in his first NLL game. He did have some bad plays but those will become rarer as his NLL career continues.

The game was the first of CityTV’s coverage of the Rush on the road and I thought it was a success. It shows you don’t need a huge budget to show a game on TV.  Between them and TSN2, fans in Edmonton will never miss a game unless they can’t get to one at Rexall.

The Rush are in Minnesota next week for their 3rd strait road game.
